EXTREME SURVIVAL:
10 days, 9 nights
SINGLE: $5,000 – DOUBLE/TRIPLE: $4,300
Are you looking to go further into the Amazon? The Extreme Survival expedition is full immersion, going deep into the jungle to learn the most advanced survival techniques. Unlike the previous trips, this venture will require us to fish for our own dinners, track nearby hazards, and learn what it’s like to truly LIVE beneath the canopy.
We’ll start by heading to the state of Sao Sebastiao Do Uatamã, northeast of Manaus. This drive will take approximately 3 hours and place us at the banks of another important Brazilian river, the Uatamã. From there we’ll board a river barge that will take us east to Sao Sebastiao Do Uatamã.
Our next goal will be to meet with my partner, (perhaps insert name?) who lives north of here on the Jatapu River. The Jatapu is an incredibly long, narrow river stretching from the Uatamã in the south, nearly 250 miles north to the Guyanese border. Along the way we’ll be collecting additional supplies for our journey into the deep jungle. Understand that preparation is key to surviving an expedition like the one we’re about to embark upon.
We’ll be navigating the Jatapu by speedboat. Which speedboat we’ll use, however, will be up to chance. With a faster, more agile speedboat, our trip up the Jatapu to my partner’s home will take three hours. If the boat is older and less nimble, this river trip might take longer.
Upon reaching my partner’s home we’ll begin planning our trip by locale. This stage in the preparation is key because we want to maximize your exposure to the jungle! This area is teeming with life, but we’ll need to navigate further to truly behold this spectacle of nature.
Traveling up the Jatapu will take some time. We’ll be fishing each day, stopping on the banks to observe wildlife where appropriate, and discussing our next steps upon reaching camp.
The Jatapu is an abundant river, joined by hundreds of tributaries that would take decades to explore to completion. We’ll be sampling this land, and appreciating it with the reverence it deserves. By the third day we will have reached our basecamp, and the creation of our shelter can begin.
From here, we’ll be on our own. An untapped, untamed wilderness surrounding us, waiting to be explored. In no other package can I promise as much wildlife as will be seen on this survival expedition. The area near our basecamp will have safe waters for swimming, and we’ll have canoes for travel and to acquire resources; the “superhighways” of the Amazon are her rivers!
Each day we’ll be filling ourselves with the bounty this forest provides. Hiking will give us the opportunity to observe wildlife in its natural habitat, and there will be so much to see and hear. Pink and gray dolphins are abundant in this river, and will surely be seen, curious of us. Alligators, or “caymans” as we call them do inhabit the river further north, and we may be lucky enough to see them, both day and night.
The rivers are the lifeblood of the Amazon, so it’s very common to see all manner of wildlife searching it for resources, just like us! We’ll see river otters at play and all manner of birds, some of which practice no migratory pattern and can only be found here. Night excursions may reveal even more elusive species like the armadillo, or the howling song of hollow monkeys. Snakes and spiders of various types inhabit the jungle. We’ll be careful to stop, identify, and observe these beautiful, if dangerous, creatures.
Speaking of dangerous, north of our basecamp is prime jaguar territory, and these big cats have a special, spiritual significance to the indigenous Brazilians. I’ll show you important jaguar tracking techniques, including imitating some sounds to perhaps, start a conversation! In no other tour will you get this incredible opportunity, to walk the land that these gorgeous predators call home.
Our final day (day 10) will be an 11 hour journey back, beginning at 8am and ending in Manaus at 7pm. We’ll be laughing all the way home, sharing our favorite moments, and reveling in all we’ve seen having conquered the Amazon! Neither of us will soon forget this expedition, and we’ll be bonded beneath the jungle stars forever.
So there you have it. The ultimate in survival packages that will see you prepared to tackle anything this world has to offer.
